Leigh (they/them) (b. 1995) is an oil painter who graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2026 with a MFA in painting. They have been developing their practice for over a decade, beginning during their undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. They majored in Visual Studies and researched connections between fine art, art history, perception science, and aesthetic philosophy. This has led to their current work, which is in the historical lineage of genre painting, or scenes of everyday life. Their evocative and colorful group scenes have a foundation in people watching and observational drawing, but they obscure details and setting. This combination of authenticity and mystery creates the ideal environment for viewers’ memories to be evoked and new stories to be created. Leigh has exhibited nationally in group shows, including 3 Square Art Gallery in Fort Collins, CO and the Arts North International Exhibition at the Hopkins Art Center in Hopkins, MN, where they received the 3rd place prize in the oil painting category.
